windy wittering wednesday !

ooo today has been soooo windy around here.. beautiful bright sunshine for most of the day but phew that bluster was very strong.. i was freezing!!
suppose it has blown a few cobwebs away though which we all need from time to time!..

well i met my mum in town for a little mooch around the charity shops this afternoon, i bought these two retro style candle holders for 59p...

the pattern reminds me of bubbles for some reason

these are from ikea and look brand new, actually not sure were I'll put them yet as they dont really fit into any of my colour schemes around the House but i did think they were rather cute so im sure i'll find a home for them!

then in the next charity shop i spotted these PJ's as soon as i walked in . ( you know with me having extra floral magpie vision.. i can spot a rose petal at 100 yards don't you know!) .. they were only 99p .. my mum bought these for me and she got her self a lovely pair of navy blue silk PJ's.. £ 1.98 for the pair.. i mean how fantastic is that..
i love the duck egg blue background on my ones . .works so well with the dark pink of the flowers.. and also is an almost identical match to my bedroom wallpaper so i could actually camouflage myself into the wall if i wanted to !!!..

then on the way out of the same shop this little tpot with tea cosy was sat on a table just waiting to be bought..

so i ummed and ahhed for a few minutes and then my mum bought me it anyways!!.. the label says country living

so i assume its come from an offer from the magazine or something, again its a lovely duck egg blue

so we went back to mine and munched our way through a pack of coconut rings biscuits ( i wonder why my clothes don't fit!) and had a cuppa..then the hubby took mum home and on his return produced a bag of goodies from mummy dearest .. ooo exciting.. i do like a bag of goodies

so first out of the bag was this lovely red throw.. brand new still all wrapped up in a red ribbon.. i think there is nothing more special than somthing being wrapped in ribbon..perhaps im a little bit sad but i do think it always gives it an extra somthing.. !!

Ive put it over the arm of my floral sofa ( i already have a red throw on the other arm so now its nice and matching .. but not to matching.. don't want it to be twee!!) and i love the pretty cut out heart detail on the trim..

this sweet little jam jar lid.. which i think i may make into a broach /badge ..

on the back it tells us its from a jam jar company..

anything polka dotted or floral is always welcome in this house...no matter how big or small!

and then this divine little vase.. the beautiful rosebuds all around are just beautiful.. i think I'm going to use it as a candle holder i love it so much..

its on top of my china cabinet at the moment and its funny because your eye is drawn to that and then to the china posies inside the cabinet at the same time.. a proper feast for your eyes now!!

as i was getting the things out of the bag i noticed how the pyjamas, the red throw, the teapot and t-cosy and the little lid all complimented each other with the blue red and pink tones .. it looks like a little display and if i was creative enough i would display it all beautifully and take wonderful pictures but i kinda just threw it together and took a few pics whilst the kids were occupied!! but you get the picture don't you!!

oh and if i haven't been treated enough there was something else at the bottom of the bag .... a HUGE bar of tolberone ... MMMMmmmmm....

well it is Wednesday after all.. to late to start a diet mid week and ive wittered on enough so surely Ive burnt some calories off doing that!!

***oh and my mummy has just discovered the pretty vintage blog today.. so she may well be online now reading this.. so big wave to the mummy!!!****

three is a magic number

was having a little change around the other day.. just moving a jug here, a picture there you know what its like.. think its generally called faffing actually!!

anyway this time my attention was focused on the china cabinet in my living room.. that holds tea cups and other various bits and bobs related to china!.. the top of it was winding me up .. it all looked a bit bitty. the lamp was far to small for it and it just looked a bit naff.. so i started having a move around and moved a large jug from off the top of my dresser and a small jug from the dresser shelves in my living room..
added a candle and put my large cake stand back on there ...
when i stepped back and looked.. i felt a lot happier ( for now!) .. and then i noticed that it was a pattern of three that i seemed to use and i realised looking round my home that i do seem to put three things together when grouping!!..

just thought id show you ..

Lilly's currently making my house pong..but they were in the bargain bin with a yellow woopsie sticker on..couldn't resist!!!

and then there are somethings that just automatically come in threes that you have to use...

it must just be a good number!!..

FRIDAYS FROCKS

this weeks Friday frocks post is a little bit inspired by the Mike Leigh play/film/drama whatever you call it.. "Abigails party"..
i don't know why but the dress itself reminds me of the play... even though its nothing like the dress that Alison Steadman wore i can just picture the era and the housewife wearing this as she sashays around her house party making gin and tonics for everyone!!

i bought the dress from a local charity shop for £4.99...
a glamorous floor length brown maxi dress that can be dressed up with heels or worn with flat roman sandals in the summer very versatile dress i had to have it for economy reasons if nothing else!!
the sequins caught my eye immediately as they would .. there is a lot of them!

but on closer inspection i loved the little lattice detail and the velvet bow to..

the chiffon long sleeves add a lighter touch so the dress doesn't appear to heavy looking...

teamed with a variety of thin and chunky gold bangles all bought from charity shops or Primark specials!!

no self respecting hostess would be seen without her heels so Ive put these sky scraper leopard print peep toe platforms bought from a local shoe shop with the dress.. adds a fun touch with the leopard print and stops it all becoming a block colour as well i think...

i love this dress.. i love knowing i have something like this in my wardrobe.. haven't had the chance to wear it yet.. hoping to hold a party over the coming months were I'm sure it will make its first outing and i'll be heard to say "nother gin Tone!!" ...

Door to Door service

well today i had an hour of "me time!" so i took the opportunity to have a look around the charity shops.. always a joy.. although past few weeks haven't had that much from them..
well first shop brought me nothing.. i thought great..its going to be a fruitless day again..
next shop i spotted some glasses on the shelf, now we have tons of wine glasses ( i wonder why!) but not really that many ordinary drinking glasses.. this was highlighted over the Christmas hols when we had the hubby's whole family around one evening and they were drinking out of the most ill assortment of glasses.. its just that everything always get broken in our house..
anyway I'm digressing were was i.. oh yes the glasses £2.49 for 8.. amazing and they are really heavy..perfect for a gin and tonic . just the right size!..
well in this certain shop there is a couple of volunteers who always nab me when i go in and have a good ol chat.. simply because I'm in there all the time and so is my mum so they know the pair of us.. well this older chap and lady were in today ... and when they started wrapping up all the glasses they were a bit concerned as they are heavy ... so they said they would drop them off on their way home from... ( they were in the car by the way .. i wasn't going to let two pensioners carry my shopping up the hill for me!)..

how great was that.. and because i was buying a few other things as well they might as well drop them off to!!!..

so before about 5pm they came and dropped them off.. proper door to door service!!
just need to give the glasses a bit of a wash and we are ready for any visitors who dont drink tea coffee or wine!!

so what else did i buy.. a lovely mug which was still in its wrapping with the most gorgeous smelling hand wash and hand cream...

the design is very Cath Kidston don't you think..

its actually from Marks & Spencers, think maybe this will have to be a display mug..don't want it getting stained or chipped !!!

this lovely candle.. Ive tried to picture the detail on it.. so pretty.. the label said its an art deco style.. i always think its a shame when candles are so pretty.. as you don't want to burn them do you.. this might have to be another show piece!!.. i would actually like to find another one that matches this one as i really love the design on it and i think two matching on my mantelpiece would be v effective!

and this lovely gravy boat jug.. i thought it was Johnson's bros at first because the shape is very similar to that style .. but theres no name underneath so must just be a good copy...

then from the last shop i went into .. i got this picture for £1.50,

i love it .. its just little Daisy's with the words "love you" "love you not" with a petal being removed on each one.. i just thought it was so sweet...

and these fake flowers that had been bunged into a vase that they didn't even match one bit.. Ive been after some fake ones for the Jug in my bathroom and i thought these would be perfect..

i think they make a difference and have added a bit more colour..

much nicer if they were fresh flowers picked from my country cottage garden but never mind.. i can dream!!!

and then because i felt it was muchly deserved and it was my "me time!" i bought myself a chocolate cupcake... ( now i am actually supposed to be on a diet but i completely forgot about that!!)

pottering ...

you cant beat a potter can you.. you know when you find yourself going from room to room just moving things or adding things to what is already there, usually you don't even realise you're doing it until you take a step back and think.... "ooh that looks nice!!"..
well you know i asked for your help on how to dress my dressing table last week.. yesterday i found that i was just having a move around in the bedroom which led to me having a play to see what i could use to make it look a bit more pretty...

so i used the mirror that is normally on my chest of drawers ( £5 from a junk shop.. i slapped a bit of paint on it... ) as i had to move it anyway as the hubby came home from helping his grandad in the garden the other day with a TV for the bedroom.. eeek i hate telly's in bedrooms and what made this worse was he actually brought a bracket to put up on the wall for the TV to sit on... can you imagine it .. we would have looked like Daisy and Onslow from "Keeping Up Appearances" .. so i had to put my foot down as i just couldn't have that.. but as the hubby so rightly pointed out .. it was his bedroom to and the whole house is a reflection of my tastes and he is allowed to have two guitars and that's his lot!!( and even these two guitars get on my nerves.. they don't half get in the way!) ... so i suggested he put the telly on top of the chest of drawers...
which is what he did...

i do find this very offensive!!!

so i had to make room for it so moved the mirror that sits on top and just put that on the only available space i had which was the dressing table and decided i quite liked it there which is a little bonus!
so what else have i used well here goes!.....
i took the little crochet runner off my fireplace in the living room as it was starting to get on my nerves and put that on top..

used some candle sticks that i bought from the flea market last year for about 50p and put them on my little blue glass tray with the glass dishes that hold my hair grips and various odds and sodds that i find on my travels around the house and jsut shove in them to keep it tidy!and also put a lamp that my mum gave me next to the little set ..i love this. .its not an antique or anything but i always think it looks really vintage very 1930s!!

i took the little glass cake stand off my kitchen window sill which i never really use and a little glass dish that i bought from the carboot sale last year which has just been hanging around doing nothing!

so Ive put my cheap and cheerful rings in that..

and then just put a little candle and a glass perfume holder next to it..

added a jug that needs filling with flowers

( you know i cant remember the last time i bought flowers.. the house needs some. must get some later!)

a little glass candle holder that has a lovely etched pattern on it .. which I'll add a nice scented candle in when I'm having a read in bed

and my favourite big necklaces draped over the mirror to

( that is how not to paint around a mirror... you're not suppose to paint the actual mirror!!)

i just need some fairy lights to go round the big mirror thats behind and i think it will feel a bit brighter as well ..

I'm still going to have to paint it all which i think will make it feel a whole lot cleaner as well...but i love the fact that i haven't had to buy anything but just used what i already had.. yet it all feels new, i have to say I'm doing that thing you do ( or is it just me) that keeps going up stairs to have a look at it because its a bit new and the novelty of it hasn't worn off yet!! ..

just have to say sorry for the rubbish quality of the pics.. i dropped our good camera on the bathroom floor and broke it eeeeek.. it cant be fixed which I'm gutted about as i love that little camera so I'm back to using an older one which is basically rubbish!!..will have to get saving for a new one me thinks..
